Battles / Simon Rose.
When World War II began in 1939, Canada's army only had 4,500 trained soldiers. The navy only had 13 ships, and the air force had a total of 270 aircraft. In spite of this modest beginning, Canada would go on to have the fourth air force and third largest navy in the world. By the end of the war Canadian soldiers had become renowned for their bravery and effectivness.
